See diagram of the 12 principles of permaculture.

We continue to apply these principles at Jardin Denat. To see the examples in the interactive table below, simply hover your cursor over each box.

WORKING WITH NATURE

MORE

  • Cultivation without chemicals and with mulching and green manures.

  • Creation of a pond and insect hotels to increase biodiversity.

EACH ELEMENT HAS SEVERAL FUNCTIONS AND EACH FUNCTION HAS SEVERAL ELEMENTS

MORE

  • Example : The Pergola and dry toilets fulfil their respective principal function  of shading and toilets but also serve as support for fruit trees.

  • Example: Watering is covered by several elements such as our well and several rainwater collection points in the garden.

  • Placing of plants is for their well-being but  also to produce a favourable environment for neighbouring plants in the garden.

ENERGETIC EFFICIENCY

MORE

  • Now that initial construction phase is completed, the focus is on planting areas and planning for less maintenance.

  • Usage of solar energy to manage watering. Economical water usage (rather than blanket watering – so no sprinklers) and by using gravity.

ADAPT TO CHANGE WITH CREATIVITY

MORE

  • Concerted strategy of using plants adapted to dry zone conditions as possible.

  • Use of materials adapted to the needs of the garden, not necessarily according to their initial purpose (Upcycling).

  • Adaptation to the Covid era with respect for safety gestures in the garden.

ZERO WASTE PRODUCED

MORE

  • The garden does not produce any waste other than green waste which is used to nourish the soil.

  • Everything is used, re-used or recycled without any waste.

  • We use a lot of recycled materials like pallets.

SHARING

MORE

  • Sharing of efforts, knowledge and produce of the garden.

  • Convivial space as much as the Covid era allows.
